The History Society Journal publishes original, mind-provoking and scholarly research undertaken by students from HKU. HSJ aims to promote history among students through in-depth studies of historical topic and provide an academic platform for our students to publish and express their opinions on topic of the year and other historical topics.

The theme and title of the Journal this year are “Military History” and “Strategy, Psychology, Logistics: Aspects of Wars” respectively.

The art of war is an ugly affair, yet it is ever more pivotal in our turbulent world as we struggle to comprehend the sheer scale of atrocities. However, people do tend to simplify the conduct of warfare to a mere contest of weaponry and wealth, and neglecting initiatives of commanders in the complicated system of warfare. Therefore we, the History Society, hope to explore this missing linkage by providing this valuable platform for studies of various aspects of warfare, from tactical doctrines to cultural impacts, thereby understanding war as an intrinsic and comprehensive phenomenon throughout human history. It is also our hope that by investigating in this perplexing topic can we acknowledge that war is not instigated to deal with the ordeals ahead only, but also a cruel portrayal of how human beings endeavour to slaughter each other by all means, and at all costs.

Submission of original, scholarly research articles is open to undergraduates from students at HKU. For further information, feel free to communicate with the History Society at hiso@connect.hku.hk.

Submissions will be accepted for HISTORY: History Society Journal 2025 in late Spring of 2025. Article processing time is typically 2-3 months. For detail arrangements, please stay tuned on our Instagram and Mass Email by then.
