Kylie is a sports studies scholar with a multi-disciplinary background, including history, cultural studies and sociology. She teaches in the MA in Hong Kong History program and holds a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration.

RESEARCH
Kylie’s doctoral research, “Martialling bodies: Sporting territoriality and body politics in Hong Kong,” investigates how non-competitive sports groups with opposing politics in Hong Kong use everyday sporting practices to shape identities and advance their agendas. It received the Honorable Mention for the Best Thesis Award from the Hong Kong Sociological Association.
Her recent research explores bodily discipline in youth bodybuilding, the construction of masculinities in Chinese martial arts, and the roles of sports within correctional settings.
