Spring History Symposium 2023

The Department of History at the University of Hong Kong is pleased to announce the return of the annual Spring History Symposium.

We invite research postgraduate students to submit abstracts for the 12th Spring History Symposium, which will be held on 5 May 2023. The one-day conference aims to provide postgraduates with the opportunity to share their research and form connections with an international community of historians.

We welcome abstracts covering topics related to modern history, broadly defined. Postgraduates from related disciplines who use historical approaches are welcome to submit. Presentations will each last approximately 15 minutes followed by a question-and-answer session.

Due to continuing uncertainty about COVID-19 travel restrictions in Hong Kong and in order to establish a broad network of researchers, this year’s conference will be held virtually. We hope this will remove barriers to entry posed by traditional face-to-face conferences.

Those interested in presenting should submit a proposal via our website: hkuhistorysymposium.com. All proposals must include an abstract of no more than 200 words and a brief biography, and all papers must be presented in English.
