Speaker: Saloni Mahajan is an Assistant Professor at Appalachian State University, where she teaches a range of courses including Theatre Design, World Culture and Performance Studies, Page and Stage, and more. In addition to her teaching, she is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her research focuses on costume design in South Asian performance traditions, with a particular emphasis on Bollywood cinema. As both an educator and a scholar, Saloni integrates practical experience with academic inquiry. She holds an MFA in Costume Design from UCLA and has designed costumes for theatre, dance, and film productions across the globe. Her professional background includes hands-on work within the Bollywood film industry, which deeply informs her scholarly and creative approaches. Saloni brings this rich blend of academic knowledge and industry experience into the classroom, offering students a unique, practice-based perspective on costume and performance design in global contexts.
